Assent Advisory Group is seeking a Technical Writer to support the development, organization, and maintenance of technical documentation for a federal government client.

The Technical Writer will work closely with program managers, technical subject matter experts, analysts, engineers, and other stakeholders to develop clear, accurate, and professionally formatted technical materials. These materials may include equipment manuals, operating instructions, maintenance instructions, standard operating procedures, technical reports, appendices, process documentation, and related program deliverables.

The successful candidate will be able to take complex technical or operational information and translate it into clear, concise documentation that can be easily understood and used by the intended audience. The position may also support document layout, formatting, editing, and quality-control activities.

This is a journeyman-level position requiring 3–10 years of relevant professional experience. The underlying LCAT specifically calls for experience writing technical materials such as equipment manuals, appendices, and operating and maintenance instructions, with potential support to document layout activities.

  • Develop, write, edit, and maintain technical documentation in support of program and customer requirements.
  • Translate complex technical, operational, and business information into clear and concise written materials.

  • Interview and collaborate with subject matter experts to collect, validate, and document technical information.
  • Review existing documentation for accuracy, completeness, consistency, readability, and compliance with applicable standards.
  • Organize technical information into logical, easy-to-follow document structures.
  • Edit technical documents for grammar, terminology, clarity, formatting, and consistency.
  • Support document layout, formatting, graphics placement, tables, figures, and other presentation requirements.
  • Develop diagrams, process flows, tables, and supporting graphics as appropriate.
  • Maintain document templates, style guides, naming conventions, and version-control practices.
  • Support configuration control and document change management.
  • Incorporate stakeholder comments and adjudicate document revisions.
  • Coordinate document reviews and approvals with technical and program personnel.
  • Ensure documentation accurately reflects approved processes, systems, procedures, and requirements.
  • Support recurring and ad hoc technical documentation requirements.
  • Assist with preparation of briefings, presentations, reports, and other customer deliverables.
  • Maintain organized repositories of current and historical technical documentation.
  • 3–10 years of relevant professional experience in technical writing, technical editing, documentation development, communications, or a related field.
  • Demonstrated experience developing technical manuals, operating procedures, SOPs, instructions, or similar documentation.
  • Experience gathering information from technical subject matter experts and converting it into usable documentation.
  • Strong technical writing and editing skills.
  • Strong command of grammar, punctuation, document structure, and professional business writing.
  • Experience formatting complex documents containing tables, graphics, figures, appendices, and references.
  • Ability to understand and organize complex technical or operational information.
  • Strong attention to detail and document quality.
  • Ability to manage multiple documents and competing deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with technical and program personnel.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience supporting federal government or Department of Defense programs preferred.
  • Citizenship: Must be a U.S. Citizen.
  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, Journalism, Business Administration, Information Technology, Engineering, or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant technical writing and professional experience may be considered in lieu of degree requirements where permitted by the contract.
